beehive montessori school

Working with EHDO Architecture I was part of the design team who tackled this wildly complicated project for the Beehive Montessori School on the beach in Mosman Park. Hours spent sitting in classes, chats with teachers & administrators and an intimate knowledge of the site all helped inform the design outcome of this unique school. The new buildings were built in 3 seperate stages to allow the school to continue operating and provide time for revenue raising. The coastal weather conditions and the site’s contentious location next to the beach helped to inform the built forms. Nestled low to the dune with tight lanes between the building which open up into shared courtyards the school was designed like a mediterranean island village, organised with pubic and private spaces that tie the school community together and protect from the elements .
